Tisha B’av: Community Tour of the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem

“By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we remembered Zion” – Psalm 137

As Tisha B’av quickly approaches, we invite you to a meaningful and emotional community tour of the exhibition “On the Banks of Babel” at the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem. The exhibition begins with the destruction of Jerusalem, through the difficult journey of exile, the settling of Babylon and the day-to-day lives of those who lived there, and finally the return to Zion. One of the highlights of the exhibit is a presentation of artifacts preserved from the time of destruction in Jerusalem and the Babylonian Exile. This collection of clay tablets come from the community “al-Yahud,” a community that was located in what is now southern Iraq. This collection evidences that there was Jewish life in Babylon, and is considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the people of Israel.

The tour will be led by a professional museum tour guide in Hebrew.

After the tour, we will stop at shuk Mahne Yehuda where we will explore the market and have lunch. We anticipate returning to Tel Aviv around 15:30.

The price includes: entrance to the Bible Lands Museum and museum tour guide, and transportation.

*Please keep in mind that this tour will be conducted in Hebrew.

Registration is open until July 10, 2015! Payment must be made beforehand. The visit is contingent upon the number of those registered.
