David Gilat

David is a lawyer and patent attorney by profession, and a senior partner at the Reinhold Cohn Group for Intellectual Property. He lectures at the Faculty of Law at Tel Aviv University and at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya. He holds a degree in Chemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a law degree from Tel Aviv University.

David has a longstanding connection with the Reform Movement and serves as a member of the executive board of the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism. He had his bar mitzvah at the “Kedem” synagogue in Tel Aviv, conducted by the late Rabbi Moshe Zemer. Rabbi Zemer also officiated at the wedding of David and his wife, Daphna. Daphna and David are members of the community and held their children’s bar and bat mitzvah ceremonies at Beit Daniel.

His adoptive father, the late Dr. Michael Cohn, was a member of the Reform community in Kfar Shmaryahu during the 1960s and maintained ties with the Kedem community. In 1974, the family contributed to the establishment of a library at the synagogue in memory of the late Dan Gilat, David’s brother, who fell in the Yom Kippur War. In 2016, a Torah scroll was dedicated to the synagogue in his memory.

Daphna and David have four children — Adi, Shai, Yael, and Noam — and grandchildren.
