Tikkun Olam in Tel Aviv-Jaffa offers English-speaking college graduates between the ages of 22-27, the opportunity to spend 5 or 10 months in Tel Aviv or Jaffa studying and volunteering in community service and coexistence projects alongside young, Israeli volunteers. During their time in Israel, participants take part in a month-long Ulpan orientation period, choose either a community service or coexistence track, and take part in trips, tours and activities throughout their stay in Israel.
Tikkun Olam is a partnership between the Bina Center for Jewish Identity and Hebrew Culture, the Daniel Centers for Progressive Judaism, and the Union for Reform Judaism.
See one of our participants´ Tikkun Olam Blog. Spenser tells us his story about his life in south Tel Aviv, and his experiences in this fascinating city.
Life is complicated in south Tel Aviv. On a daily basis, I am experiencing different aspects of Israeli society that, despite multiple previous trips, I never knew existed. Tel Aviv really is a divided city in many ways. It is fractured along racial, religious and economic lines that would disturb some. At the same time, people are working hard to change the situation of the refugees, recent immigrants and low-income veteran Israelis in south Tel Aviv.
